Batik is a famous art from Indonesia. References to batik have been found from as early as 800 AD in Java, Indonesia but may also have existed in India and Egypt. There are various patterns of batik from all around Indonesia, from Java (east to west), Borneo, Jambi, etc.
The word batik originates from the Indonesian culture with each pattern having a meaning, for example, for good luck or indicating a royal family. Batik comes in three forms: hand-drawn - with patience and precision in applying the 'canting', stamped with a copper 'cap'; or the modern variety printed.
